Financial and Economic Appraisal of Investment Projects

Rationale

The course is designed to provide participants with important knowledge and skills in the appraisal of financial and economic feasibilities of investment projects from the point of view of a development financing institution.

For a more in-depth understanding of the concepts, the course will also discuss the different aspects of an investment design and how the financial and economic aspects fit into the overall investment plan submitted by a client. In addition, it will cover the difference in appraisal techniques between purely private oriented investments and development projects.

This course is relevant for participants from both commercial and development banks and other development financing institutions.

Course Content

  • Brief introduction of the course: objectives and training methodologies.
  • Role of banks in project designing and appraisal: review or direct participation.
  • What to look for in a financial appraisal.
  • Loan packaging: who is absorbing the risk?
  • Identifying and minimizing project investment risks

Target Participants

The program is designed for officials of development banks and other financial institutions that are involved in project planning and implementation. Officers, executives, and employees who are directly or indirectly involved in project appraisal, loan evaluation, and credit analysis will greatly benefit from the course.
