The ADFIAP Institute successfully conducted the Development Finance Fellowship Program (DFFP), ADFIAP Career Credentialing Program (ACCP) Level 3 on 4-5 November 2024 in Bali, Indonesia. The main resource person was Dr. Alvin Ang, Senior Researcher of the Strategy and Policy Studies of Brunei Darussalam, and concurrent Professor (on leave) of the Ateneo de Manila University’s Economics Department.
The course aims to enhance the leadership and technical competence of CEOs, Board Members and senior officials of ADFIAP member-DFIs and focuses on the strategic and pivotal leadership role in effectively managing and operating a development bank and other financial institutions. It intends to provide participants with in-depth knowledge on the nature of development finance and its vital role in the economic and social progress of a developing country.
The important economic, regulatory and competitive issues facing development financing today were tackled. Workshops and case study exercises further hone the participants’ technical skills, innovative mindset, and leadership qualities which validated their understanding of the principles of development finance. The course also provided them with the opportunity to network with each other and demonstrate practical skills and best practices that can be emulated and put into immediate practice.
One of the highlights of the course is the assessment of a project through its impact. While there is a need for planned work that covers resources/inputs and activities to be undertaken in a particular project, there must be a conscious effort in identifying the intended results of the project that not only considers output and outcome, but more so its economic and socio progress impacts. Effective development financing starts with determining the impact of the project, which makes putting in the resources needed much easier. This is the essence of development finance.
The program was attended by fourteen (14) participants coming from Bhutan Development Bank Ltd. (BDB), Agricultural and Rural Development Bank of Cambodia (ARDB), Bank of Industry and Mine of Iran (BIM), Perbadanan Usahawan National Malaysia (PUNB), Agricultural Bank of Malaysia (Agrobank), Oman Development Bank (DB), National Development Bank of Palau (NDBP), and Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).
After satisfactorily completing all the requirements of the DFFP, the participants were duly certified as Fellow in Development Finance (FDF) by the ADFIAP Institute, a testimony of their passion, expertise, and commitment to professional excellence in development finance.
